Joy George, Owner & Principal Teacher

Joy George is a second generation Authentic Pilates™ Teacher, and a former Teacher Trainer for the New York Pilates Studio. A skilled Pilates and movement educator, she brings to her teaching more than twenty-five years’ experience training athletes, dancers, celebrities, and clients from 8 years old to 101 years old. She completed her first certification under the tutelage of Joseph Pilates’ protégé Romana Kryzanowska at the Pilates Studio in New York, and later completed a second apprenticeship and certification with Romana and her daughter Sari at Romana’s Pilates (Drago’s Gym) in New York. In addition, she is a Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) Gold-Certified Instructor.

Joy was first introduced to Pilates as a dancer in 1978, and has been teaching Pilates since 1993. She has logged more than 30,000 hours as a teacher of the Authentic Pilates Method and is dedicated to maintaining and teaching the original system of exercises and philosophies developed by Joseph H. Pilates.

A perpetual student, she travels regularly throughout the year to continue her education through training opportunities with many distinguished teachers of the classical Pilates method, as well as esteemed teachers from a wide variety of Pilates lineages. She also attends seminars and conferences for sports medicine, personal training/functional movement, health & wellness coaching, nutrition, and massage therapy.

Joy is a State Licensed Massage Therapist and Reflexologist, Certified by the National Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, with a specialty Certification in Orthopedic Massage. She is a Licensed Health Coach and Certified Sports & Exercise Nutrition Specialist, an ACSM-Certified Exercise Physiologist, and a Personal Trainer – Certified by both the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT). She is also a Certified FMS (Functional Movement Screen) specialist, and is Certified in TRX™  Suspension Training.

A former professional dancer and NIKE-sponsored fitness spokesperson, with more than thirty years’ experience in the health and fitness industry, Joy’s background includes extensive training in exercise physiology, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, post-rehab fitness, nutrition, and stress management, as well as practical experience in health club, sports medicine, physical therapy and hospital settings.

She completed her Master of Science degree in Health Psychology after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. Her oil paintings and drawings focus on studies of the human figure and the body in motion.
